Budding songstress becomes the voice of Amazing Australians
Shaylee Gear’s dream is to follow in the footsteps of her idols; megastar performing artists like Bruno Mars and Beyonce.
At just 14 years of age, she’s already well on her way to achieving that goal.
For as long as she’s been able to talk Shaylee has also been a singer, a passion shared with her dad from a young age.
Shaylee is a student at Vocal Adrenaline Performing Arts (VAPA) and enjoys writing songs that draw inspiration from her life.
Her first original focuses on the ever-present issue of bullying and why it’s important to remain strong in the face of social adversity.
“I usually get all my inspiration for songs from situations that I’ve been in or seen,” says Shaylee.
“One day when I was on vacation, I saw that this guy was being bullied and I thought it was really horrible. That day when I was at the hotel room, I started writing about it and then it became a song which was my first original called Super Power.”
“It’s about bullying and peer pressure, and how to get the negativity away from you and be strong.”
Not many artists can say their songwriting career has taken them around the world, much less in the case of a young teenager.
Recently Shaylee took that international leap and travelled to the USA with fellow VAPA students and director Danielle Lo Passo, where she wrote two new songs in one of the country’s music capitals; Nashville, Tennessee.
“My singing teacher Miss Danielle took us to Nashville, and we wrote two songs with some people in Blackbird studios. So I have two songs coming. One is called Walk Away and the other Is Forever and Always.”
“It was an absolutely amazing experience, especially working with the people that we got assigned with. We found out that one of the people who I worked with, his name is Stacey and he actually wrote some of the songs from Dirty Dancing.”
Now, having returned from overseas, the budding star has hit yet another high note.
Shaylee has become the voice behind ‘Amazing Australians’ which is the newest single to be released by Amazing People Music.
The song was written and produced on the Gold Coast by Jack Hughes and Bignote Productions.
According to the production team, Shaylee was a natural choice to be the lead vocalist on the track which aims to exemplify the Aussie spirit.
“It’s amazing to be a part of this project. This song has really captured the spirit of what it’s like to live and be in Australia,” says Shaylee.
“It reminds us how lucky we are to call this amazing country home and it feels like such a safe country to be in.”
This is the second time Shaylee has lent her voice to an Amazing People Music project, the first being when she performed ‘G’day Mate, G’day’ with fellow VAPA singers.
“When we did the first song ‘G’day Mate’ it was really catchy and I couldn’t get it out of my head. When I got asked to be a part of the next project, I was more than happy to do it.”
Shaylee says she can’t wait to get back in the booth to record more songs in the near future.
